Can Meditation Really Slow Aging?


Big claims are made for mindfulness, and one of the biggest is that it can slow down the aging process.



The study I wrote about in my "Getting Older With Bipolar" blog for PsychCentral seems to reinforce the case that managing stress is what really slows down aging.  Mindfulness meditation is one of many ways to do that.

When reading the headlines about studies that promise surprising results for any medical intervention, it pays to be skeptical.  The study I write about is one that does not stand up to close investigation.

Be careful of therapies that offer the same good results for everyone, and try to read deeply into the information a claim provides.  If you want more information on any catchy headline, read the study yourself.  They're all available online, most through the NIH database.
